Applicants must be in long term recovery from a substance use disorder at least 3 years.

We have immediate openings on our Peer Recovery Team for passionate individuals who have successfully been in long term recovery from a substance use disorder for at least three (3) or more years. This position would allow the candidate to work in the emergency department and offer peer services to those in need. This position connects individuals to a larger community of care, and provides peer support services. 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide direct services primarily in-person to individuals as assigned.
  • Ensures assigned paperwork is completed and maintained in accordance with funding source standards and CARE of SEM policy and procedures.
  • Demonstrates in practice there are multiple pathways to recovery.
  • Able to delivers service in a short term setting by applying the screening brief intervention and referral to treatment model (SBIRT), when applicable.
  • Work cooperatively and effectively with personnel of assigned site, for example, emergency department staff.
  • Establish and maintain liaison relationships with appropriate agencies.
  • Facilitate timely referral and placements from hospital to treatment/recovery support providers.
  • Connect individuals to a larger community of care.
  • Educate, assist, and support family members, as requested.
  • Link individuals to a peer recovery coach, as requested.
  • Documents information for established metrics and outcomes as required.
  • Participates in ongoing recovery coach training, education, and performance support.
  • Ability to adjust hours of work based on the community needs, including some evening and weekends.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or graduate equivalent degree required.
  • Must be in long term recovery from a substance use disorder.
  • Certificate of completion: from Connecticut Community for Addiction Recovery (CCAR) Recovery Coach Academy.
  • One year of peer coaching or related experience preferred.
  • Must possess active status in certification by either:
    • Certified Peer Recovery Coach and/or Certified Peer Recovery Mentor (CPRM); or
    • be on a CARE development plan to obtain a CPRM
  • Demonstrates in practice there are multiple pathways to recovery.
